Altiris Delivers New Integration of Security Vulnerability Assessment and Configuration Management; Altiris Updates SecurityExpressions(TM) Policy Files and Adds Built-in Linux Security Checks to AuditExpress(TM).

SALT LAKE CITY -- Altiris Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRS ATRS Arkansas Teacher Retirement System

), a pioneer of service-oriented management solutions, today announced Altiris security assessment and vulnerability compliance features have been integrated into the Altiris architecture to help provide a centralized cen·tral·ize

approach to eliminating security vulnerabilities. In addition, Altiris now offers new policy files for users, groups and heterogeneous systems for comprehensive, audit-ready security compliance across diverse systems and organizations.

Altiris offers two security and vulnerability management solutions. First, Altiris(R) SecurityExpressions(TM) provides a top-down, standardized approach According to International Convergence of Capital Measurement and Capital Standards, known as Basel II, the standardized approach is a set of risk measurement techniques for banking institutions. The term may be used in the context of credit risk or operational risk.  by helping customers define and enforce compliance with established requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley, FISMA FISMA Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002

, Payment Card Industry data security standards and any custom enterprise system security policy. SecurityExpressions has completed the certification process for more CIS Cis (sĭs), same as Kish (1.)

Second, Altiris(R) AuditExpress(TM) helps customers defend against security threats by finding common system vulnerabilities and prioritizing remediation tasks. AuditExpress goes beyond basic vulnerability scanning by using established policies to help determine general security status across multiple platforms Refers to two or more operating environments, which typically include the CPU family and operating system. For example, if versions of a program run on Windows and the Macintosh, the software is said to support multiple platforms. . As opposed to scanners, AuditExpress specifies why vulnerabilities occur in addition to where vulnerabilities are located.

Steve Morton, Altiris VP of product management and marketing, said, "Altiris has delivered on its vision to help customers efficiently secure their IT environments by driving the convergence of configuration and security management technologies. Our unique service-oriented management approach helps eliminate hours of manual effort and significant cost while delivering rapid ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot).  and a healthy IT security posture."

New integration combines AuditExpress vulnerability assessment A Department of Defense, command, or unit-level evaluation (assessment) to determine the vulnerability of a terrorist attack against an installation, unit, exercise, port, ship, residence, facility, or other site.  with Altiris configuration management to provide customers with closed-loop remediation of common vulnerabilities. Vulnerability assessment data is now an integrated component of the Altiris configuration management database (CMDB CMDB Configuration Management Data Base
CMDB Composite Modified Double Base (Propellant)
CMDB Control and Monitor Display Builder
CMDB Call Management Database
) that can be leveraged across all Altiris solutions. Security assessment data can be applied to Altiris tasks to help make assessment and remediation more efficient and systems more secure, more rapidly.

The integration allows customers to:

--deploy the security-management software from a centralized, integrated console.

--centrally manage groups based on AuditExpress or Altiris architecture collections and machine lists.

--create assessment-based system collections to use Altiris solutions for remediation of non-compliance.

--automate the generation of ready-made or customized service desk tickets based on assessment results.

AuditExpress has also been updated to include built-in security checks for Linux vulnerabilities and offers new trend reporting to help track remediation progress.

In other news, Altiris has leveraged existing SecurityExpressions functionality to create more than 35 pre-built security policy files for user, group and heterogeneous systems. Altiris has created these policy files to help customers more rapidly assess Windows and UNIX-based user and group security settings. These new policy files deliver comprehensive audits for vulnerable user passwords, administrative privileges, file access and numerous others. SecurityExpressions also offers new CIS for HP-UX, Linux and Solaris, and UNIX UNIX

Every organization establishes different security policies for system configurations and for access to heterogeneous operating systems Operating systems can be categorized by technology, ownership, licensing, working state, usage, and by many other characteristics. SecurityExpressions embraces policy diversity by offering best practice templates, customization of existing templates or the creation of new, custom templates.
