The social isolation brought on by religious vilification is preventing Australia's Arabic and Muslim community from participating openly in public life. Raymond Chow states that despite significant public debate, the harmful impact of religious hatred continues to be trivialised by the rest of the community. In 'Homophobia Perpetuated', Sandra Berns and Alan Berman examine the scuppering of the inquiry into the Marriage Amendment Bill 2004 and subsequent passing of the bill, which categorically defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman for life.
