(Nasdaq:DOMZ) announced today that Commissioner Loretta Lynch of the California Public Utilities Commission The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC; also often commonly referred to as simply the PUC) [1] is a state Public Utilities Commission which regulates privately-owned utilities in the state of California, including electric power,  has circulated an alternate decision regarding their merger.

The alternate decision if adopted would deny approval of the application for the merger, but would leave the proceeding open to provide the water companies an opportunity to provide additional evidence that ratepayers will benefit from the merger.

The water companies expect that on May 18, 2000, Commissioner Lynch's alternate decision will be considered by the full Commission along with the proposed decision previously issued by the Administrative Law Judge administrative law judge n. a professional hearing officer who works for the government to preside over hearings and appeals involving governmental agencies. They are generally experienced in the particular subject matter of the agency involved or of several agencies.  and the Commissioner assigned to the case (Jean Vieth and Henry Duque, respectively), which recommends approval of the merger.

Both water companies are convinced that ratepayers will benefit from the merger and remain committed to obtaining the Commission approval.
