Altec Lansing and STMicroelectronics Announce Strategic Partnership -- Co-operation establishes technical center for research and development.

 Technical Excellence Center in Kfar Saba, Israel. Scheduled to be fully operational next month, the Center will develop joint technologies and systems solutions for the computer, consumer and communications technology markets. Projects will include the development of architecture, silicon, software and firmware to be incorporated into Altec Lansing and ST products. The Center will function under the direction of a steering committee comprised of four representatives from each company. A formal press conference and opening ceremony will be held today at the Tel Aviv Intercontinental Hotel in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Technology journalists and invited participants are scheduled to attend.

Initially, the ALST Technical Excellence Center will study solutions for a variety of audio related applications, including enhanced multimedia speaker systems, DSP-based speakers for audio processing, RF solutions for high-quality audio networking and voice recognition systems for both home control and business PC systems. In the future, this work may extend to other fields broadly related to audio treatment but involving all aspects of the system, including radio frequency front ends, DSP-based processing and power amplification.
