Altea Therapeutics Enters into Research Agreements with Pharma Companies to Examine Feasibility of Developing Transdermal Skin Patches for Protein Drugs.

ATLANTA -- Altea Therapeutics has entered into research agreements with two undisclosed pharmaceutical companies to examine the feasibility of developing novel transdermal patch products for two protein drugs.

Under the terms of these agreements, Altea Therapeutics will use its patented transdermal delivery technology, the PassPort[TM] System, to assess the feasibility of delivering certain proprietary protein drugs from a transdermal skin patch. These protein drugs are currently commercially available only as injectable solutions. The companies have an option to enter into broader licensing agreements for development and commercialization.

Altea Therapeutics now has three separate collaborations in place with pharmaceutical companies. Early in 2006, Altea Therapeutics announced an exclusive licensing agreement for Japan with Teikoku Seiyaku Co. Ltd. to develop and commercialize a new transdermal patch therapy to deliver an active pharmaceutical ingredient for managing advanced Parkinson's disease.
