Altavista Mines Inc. - Bulk Sample Tests From Santa Anna Reveal Commercial Gold Potential.BOUCHERVILLE, Quebec--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 1995--Altavista Mines Inc. (ME:AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture ) is pleased to announce that results of the first bulk sampling of ore from Altavista Mines Inc.'s Santa Anna property indicate commercial ore values which justify initiation of an aggressive drilling program to increase and establish the reserves. Altavista is a newly-listed company on the Montreal Exchange Montreal Exchange A Canadian derivatives exchange that facilitates the trading of stock options, interest rate futures and options, as well as index options and futures. Located in Montreal, Quebec, it is the country's main financial derivative market, while the Winnipeg which holds rights in two gold properties in Northwestern Quebec. The Company is primarily focusing its activities on the Santa Anna property which is made up of 47 contiguous claims over an area of 1,880 hectares located 15 kilometres southwest of the town of La Sarre. Altavista has the option to acquire an undivided UNDIVIDED. That which is held by the same title by two or more persons, whether their rights are equal, as to value or quantity, or unequal. 2. Tenants in common, joint-tenants, and partners, hold an undivided right in their respective properties, until 90 per cent interest in these claims. The second property (Montbray) consists of twelve mining claims over an area of 480 hectares in Montrbray Township, 30 kilometres west of the city of Rouyn-Noranda. Average grade from two tests on Santa Anna ore have revealed 0.073 ounce of gold per ton with a recovery rate of 95.3 per cent. Approximately 5 tonnes of ore, gathered from three separate stockwork zones, were evaluated in a pilot plant at the Lakefield Research Plant at Lakefield, Ont., through gravity and cyanidation circuits. While these grades might appear low at first sight, they are nevertheless promising taking into account that the bulk samples showed heavy dilution and that they were extracted mainly on widths of up to 65 feet without previous assay on the first and third zones. Altavista has been carrying on an extensive exploration program on its Santa Anna property to determine ore grades Ore grade is a measure that describes the concentration of a valuable natural material (such as metals or minerals) in its surrounding ore. Ore grade is used to assess the economic feasibility of a mining operation: the cost of extracting a natural material from its ore is directly . A bulk sample of 10,900 metric tonnes was extracted earlier and sent to a custom milling facility. During the initial milling it became apparent that the mill was not adaptable to the Santa Anna ore which is mainly coarse free gold. As a result Altavista shipped a 5 tonnes sample to the research facilities at Lakefield's pilot plant where the ore was processed through a gravity circuit and then through a cyanidation circuit which produced a 95.3 per cent recovery of gold from the ore averaging 0.073 ounce per ton. It is important to note that this grade resulted from the bulk sampling containing heavy dilution since it was extracted from varying widths of the three zones without prior assays from two of the three zones. Altavista's geologists are therefore confident that through better, more selective ore extraction they will be able to increase gold grade appreciably ap·pre·cia·ble adj. Possible to estimate, measure, or perceive: appreciable changes in temperature. See Synonyms at perceptible. . They also believe that the gold grade will increase with depth because of Santa Anna's type of geology. The commercial gold grade for the Santa Anna property is estimated of at 0.06 ounce per ton (approximately CDN (Content Delivery Network) A system of distributed content on a large intranet or the public Internet in which copies of content are replicated and cached throughout the network. $30 per ton) for an open pit mine with an on site ore treatment plant. Estimates are that the Santa Anna contains 1 million tonnes of gold ore on only one of the three shells, down to a depth of 210 feet. A geological survey The term geological survey can be used to describe both the conduct of a survey for geological purposes and an institution holding geological information. A geological survey enabled Altavista to determine the granite dimension which could be 6,600 feet in length and about 820 feet wide. This granite consists of three shells. The survey carried out by Dr. Claude Hubert and Dr. Abdelhay Belkabir also identified a horizon on the property favorable to host a nickel deposit. Altavista will now pursue an aggressive exploration program to detail gold and nickel content in order to produce a feasibility study "A Feasibility Study" is an episode of the original The Outer Limits television show. It first aired on 13 April, 1964, during the first season. It was remade in 1997 as part of the revived The Outer Limits series with a minor title change. for the Spring 1996. This will consist of line cutting and systematic definition drilling. Commercial production could begin in the Fall of 1996. Montbray Property Some exploration work has also been carried out on the Montbray property in which Altavista owns a 100 per cent interest in 12 claims over 480 hectares. This property was acquired by Altavista because of its geological similarity with the Santa Anna geology. Exploration work consisted mainly in a line cutting program (48.2 miles) followed by geophysical surveys Geophysical survey refers to the systematic collection of geophysical data for spatial studies. Because the property is not easily accessible during the winter months, at this stage of development, exploration works will resume in the spring of 1996. All budget and efforts of Altavista personnel will be concentrated on the Santa Anna property for the next months.
