To turn away: avert one's eyes. 2. after bosses agreed to talk to unions over redundancy payments. Workers at Alstom Alstom (formerly GEC-Alsthom) (Euronext: ALO) is a large French multinational conglomerate whose businesses are power generation, railway signalling; and manufacturing trains (e.g. the TGV and Eurostar as well as Citadis trams) and the world's largest ships (e.g. Power are threatening to down tools in the new year over plans to pay loyalty bonuses to only a few of those being made redundant from the Newbold Road plant. Although each of the 215 workers being axed would get their own redundancy packages, just 10 per cent would get the pounds 2,500 loyalty payment. But union leaders are confident all will now get the extra cash after Alstom officials agreed to talk. Amicus AMICUS Automated Management Information Civil Users System regional officer Tom Keogh said: "Our reps are in the process of negotiating with the company to reach a settlement." Any strike would be the first industrial action to hit the plant for two decades. |
