SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1995--Alpharel (NASDAQ/NMS:AREL AREL Acute Reference Exposure Level (EPA) ), a principal supplier of enterprisewide imaging application software, announced the successful integration of its FileFolder product with the Metropolitan Archives Document Processing Processing text documents, which includes indexing methods for text retrieval based on content.  Department of Buildings, reducing the document distribution time from days to seconds, as well as the costs associated with distributing archived documents needed by building owners, managers, real estate brokers and architects.

By storing and distributing engineering, facilities and architectural drawings and documents from a computer database, overall maintenance costs are dramatically reduced and accountability is greatly improved.

Alpharel tailored its FileFolder application to accommodate Metropolitan Archives' index system, which is based on the Department of Buildings' document reference numbers. Large (E-sized 36- x 48-inch) and small (A- and B-sized) documents are scanned. Images are captured electronically and matched to the correct index number.

Additional applications allow users to view, mark-up, edit, control quality, fax and print. The Metropolitan Archives database has the capacity to store and distribute a half-million documents.

"Metropolitan Archives enthusiastically embraced our document management solution from the start," stated Stephen Gardner, president and chief executive officer. "They looked at other Alpharel facilities management installations and saw first-hand the outstanding ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot).  potential. The FileFolder System is ideal for paper-intensive industries."

Alpharel and Metropolitan Archives recently participated in the Buildings/New York trade show, attracting considerable attention from facilities and building managers, as well as architectural and engineering firms interested in the benefits of automated document management.
