AlphaBlox Corp. Formed to Develop Application Building Blocks for Intranet and Internet Solutions.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 1996--AlphaBlox Corp. today announced that it is developing a suite of inter-operable application building blocks that will simplify the development, deployment and adoption of mission-critical business applications on the Intranet and Internet. This new class of easy-to-assemble components is based on an open technology platform. The company plans to focus first on applications for the financial services and banking industry.

"There is tremendous demand for Intranet and Internet development tools, but traditional approaches don't easily scale to the new platforms," said Michael Skok, chairman and chief executive officer of AlphaBlox Corp. "Where traditional development vendors are simply porting, AlphaBlox is building a new class of high-level, reusable components from the ground up. These building blocks will complement new and existing tools, as well as truly leverage the strengths of emerging industry standards, including Java, Java Beans, IIOP, Netscape One, ActiveX and DCOM," he said.

In its first venture financing, AlphaBlox recently raised nearly $7 million from Accel Partners, Integral Capital Partners, Polaris and Consulta. "The Internet is the single most important area of new software development, and AlphaBlox's model for reusable application building blocks will decrease cost of delivery and maintenance of Intranet and Internet Web sites," said Roger McNamee, partner, Integral Capital Partners. AlphaBlox is currently forming several technology partnerships with major Internet vendors in order to provide the most complete software solution for its customers. Today, the company announced the first of these strategic relationships -- with Netscape Communications Corp. -- which involves NetBlox(TM), an open network environment based on Netscape ONE(TM), for developers building network-centric applications.
