Alpha Systems Lab launches MegaMotion 1.08 with 30 FPS frame rate at 640 x 480 resolution, VAFC and video output for NTSC and PAL; New release delivers better than VHS quality playback and video output for NTSC and PAL.

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 1995--Alpha Systems Lab Inc. (ASL ASL - Algebraic Specification Language ), a leading developer of PC-based digital video technologies, has introduced MegaMotion Release 1.08, featuring a range of new enhancements including full-screen, full-motion video Video transmission that changes the image 30 frames per second (30 fps). Motion pictures are run at 24 fps, which is the minimum frequency required to eliminate the perception of moving frames and make the images appear visually fluid to the eye.  capture and playback at better than VHS (Video Home System) A half-inch, analog videocassette recorder (VCR) format introduced by JVC in 1976 to compete with Sony's Betamax, introduced a year earlier.  quality.

Other key new features include video output for both NTSC (National TV Standards Committee) The committee that developed the television standards for the U.S, which are also used in Canada, Japan, South Korea and several Central and South American countries. Both the committee and the standard are called "NTSC.  and PAL standards, a new 32-bit VESA Advanced Feature Connector A VESA standard point-to-point channel used to transfer video signals between two video controllers, typically between the display adapter and a video capture or TV board. The Advanced Feature Connector (VAFC) increases the original feature connector from 8 to 32 bits and from 40 to 150  (VAFC See VESA Advanced Feature Connector. ) that facilitates up to 16.7 million colors on VAFC VGA (Video Graphics Array) The display standard for the PC. All PC display adapters support VGA, and Windows machines boot up in "VGA mode" before switching to higher resolutions.  displays, MPEG encoding capabilities and new hardware assisted software transitions and video special effects (VSE See DOS/VSE.

ASL's MegaMotion video capture board brings multimedia full-motion video to the PC for full a range of applications including pre- and post-production, corporate training, multimedia authoring, videoconferencing, remote video telesurveillance, video mail, movie editing, kiosks, presentations and CD-ROM-based animation.

MegaMotion Release 1.08 is the first in a new generation of MegaMotion products designed for higher-level digital video applications such as pre- and post-production video editing.

MegaMotion Release 1.08 is priced at $995 and is available immediately.

Release 1.08 Follows Series of New MegaMotion Technology Announcements

MegaMotion Release 1.08 offers 30 frames per second (fps) at the 640x480 full-screen resolution for a single field -- increased from 20 fps previously. The board also offers new video output support for three NTSC sizes (320x240 at 60 fields, 640x480 at 30 fields and 640x480 at a single field at 30 fps), and three PAL sizes (384x288, 768x576 at 50 fields, and 768x576 at 25 fields at 25 fps).

These new features build on several recent enhancements to ASL's MegaMotion board. Since February 1995, ASL has integrated its hardware-assisted transition and special effects software, the VAFC connector and support for XingCD MPEG encoding software into the MegaMotion package.

ASL's new hardware-assisted software for transitions and special effects enables MegaMotion to process fades, wipes, zooms and other transitions/special effects up to 20 times faster than virtually all competing video editing technologies. Enhanced with the VAFC, MegaMotion 1.08 now displays up to 16.7 million colors at 640x480 resolution and up to 32,000 colors at 1024x768 resolution on systems that include a VAFC VGA card. Support for XingCD from Xing Technology Corp. provides MegaMotion users with a low-cost MPEG encoding solution for PC-based video.
