IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 1995--Alpha Systems Lab Inc. (ASL ASL - Algebraic Specification Language ), a leading developer of PC-based digital video technologies, has announced the VAFC See VESA Advanced Feature Connector.  MegaMotion video capture board, featuring a new 32-bit Vesa Advanced Feature Connector A VESA standard point-to-point channel used to transfer video signals between two video controllers, typically between the display adapter and a video capture or TV board. The Advanced Feature Connector (VAFC) increases the original feature connector from 8 to 32 bits and from 40 to 150  (VAFC) that is the industry's first to facilitate up to 16.7 million colors on VAFC VGA (Video Graphics Array) The display standard for the PC. Enhanced with the VAFC, MegaMotion displays up to 16.7 million colors at 640x480 resolution and up to 32,000 colors at 1024x768 resolution on systems that include a VAFC VGA card A display adapter that provides VGA resolution. All display adapters (graphics cards) for PCs provide base level VGA resolutions. See VGA. . VAFC VGA technology is new to the multimedia industry, with Compaq becoming the first manufacturer to offer a VAFC VGA card earlier this year. The Compaq QV2000 is currently the industry's only VGA card to enable 16.7 million color VGA displays. Other VGA card manufacturers are expected to follow suit this year.

ASL's VAFC MegaMotion is priced at $995 and is currently shipping.

VAFC MegaMotion Release Is Newest In Series Of ASL Technology Advancements

The release of the new VAFC MegaMotion comes on the heels of two announcements reflecting the advancement of MegaMotion technology. In February 1995, ASL announced the availability of its MegaMotion hardware-assisted transition software that delivers processing speeds up to 20 times faster than those achieved with virtually all competing video editing See nonlinear video editing and video editor.  technologies.

ASL also recently announced MegaMotion's support for XingCD MPEG encoding MPEG encoding is the process of capturing (digitizing) or converting (re-encoding) video and/or audio to one of several MPEG video and/or audio standards (codecs) for distribution (Internet, LAN) or for archiving to optical disc (CD, DVD).  software from Xing Technology Corp., providing for low-cost MPEG encoding of PC-based video.

MegaMotion Displays Up To 16 Overlay Images

Based on the industry-standard Motion-JPEG format, MegaMotion supports real-time, full-motion video compression and decompression allowing applications to playback in Windows at 30 frames per second at the 320x240 resolution and 20 frames per second at the 640x480 resolution.

Additionally, MegaMotion allows video capture at the 640x480 resolution at a frame rate of 30 frames per second for up to 30 fields, and at a rate of 20 frames per second for up to 60 fields. MegaMotion was the first desktop video card to allow playback of more than two overlay images simultaneously and currently displays up to 16 images.
