Alpha Said to Account for 10% of MS Exchange Business >BY William Fellows.

Although we heard it from sources at Redmond, Meta Group's Matt Cain doesn't believe that Microsoft Corp does 60% of its Exchange business on Alpha (CI No 3,730). It's more like 10% he says. He says that he speaks to an "awful lot" of Exchange shops and says it's rare for him to encounter an Alpha shop. Cain says there's little incentive to move to Alpha because the bottleneck is not the hardware but the software, namely the backup and recovery of large mail stores. Where Exchange is running on Alpha, it's primarily in sites for which DEC did some planning or integration work.
