Alpha Pro Tech (AMEX: APT; CHX: APT) a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of disposable protective apparel for the medical, dental, industrial safety, clean room and food service markets, today announced that the demand for its N-95 Particulate Respirator face mask has dramatically increased in response to the recent Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak. The N-95 Mask is the recommended mask by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

SARS, a potentially deadly pneumonia-like disease, has become an international health emergency and is believed to be transmitted when an infected person with SARS coughs or sneezes, and someone else inhales the airborne virus. To date, SARS, which currently has no known vaccine or cure, has killed 93 people in Asia and an additional 10 people in Canada. Almost 2,700 cases in eighteen countries have been reported, including 148 cases of confirmed or probable SARS in the United States.

"In order to meet current demand, we have increased current production capacity for the N-95. Further, we are currently in the process of building additional proprietary production equipment and converting an existing production line and expect to substantially increase manufacturing capacity."

The N-95 is certified by NIOSH for protection against TB and will stop particles that are smaller than .1 microns, or one-tenth the size of Anthrax, with a 99.1 percent level of efficiency. We believe this mask will be utilized more frequently in the future to keep Healthcare employees and consumers safe from both SARS and other infectious diseases," Mr. Millar further stated.
