Alpha Announces Design Wins Incorporating LTCC Technology.

Business/Technology Editors

WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 4, 2002

New Switch-filter Modules Combine Company's Experience in GaAs ICs and

Newly Acquired Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics Capability

Alpha Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: AHAA AHAA Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies

) technology to enhance the performance of its GaAs switches.

These products include a module that combines a GaAs switch and filter, which has been designed into a mobile platform that will serve as both a CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band.  wireless handset and a Global Positioning System Global Positioning System: see navigation satellite.

The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  customer. Volume production is slated to begin in the second half of this year.

In March, Alpha acquired a Fremont, Calif.-based developer of LTCC technology, Aimta, Inc. This acquisition gives Alpha internal capability to produce high-performance RF modules that are smaller, less expensive to produce, and have fewer component parts than modules using competing technologies.

"Acquiring Aimta's strong LTCC team and technology is an important step forward in our drive toward full RF front-end integration," said David Aldrich, Alpha's president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "As these design wins illustrate, combining LTCC with Alpha's broad array of semiconductor technologies further strengthens our position as a provider of low-cost, high-performance multi-chip modules to the world's major wireless OEMs."

About Alpha

Alpha Industries produces some of the world's most highly integrated RF semiconductor solutions for enhancing the speed, quality and performance of wireless voice, data and video communications. Alpha's GaAs switches, power amplifiers and discrete semiconductors have become reference products for many of the world's largest manufacturers of wireless handsets, mobile data devices, wireless infrastructure and broadband access platforms. Alpha's strategy is to leverage its industry-leading process breadth, which includes GaAs PHEMT See FET. , HBT HBT Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor
HBT HyCult Biotechnology (Uden, The Netherlands)
HBT Hanbury-Brown-Twiss (interferometer)
HBT Herring Bone Twill
HBT Heflex Bioengineering Test
, InGaP and associated RF process technologies, into increasing levels of component integration. As a result, the Company is winning new business for its growing line of integrated RF module solutions, which dramatically reduce design complexity and improve the OEM's time to market for new products.
