ELECTIONS & AWARDS HIGHLIGHT ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The new year begins in July for the ADAA ADAA Anxiety Disorders Association of America
ADAA American Dental Assistants Association
ADAA Art Dealers Association of America (since 1962; New York City, NY, USA)
ADAA Aberdeen and District Angling Association
 with elections and installations of officers and trustees taking place at the annual convention. This year the setting was the island paradise of Hawaii at the historic Royal Hawaiian Hotel Royal Hawaiian Hotel, also known as the Pink Palace of the Pacific, is a hotel listed on the National Register of Historic Places located at 2259 Kalākaua Avenue in Honolulu, Hawaiʻ  in Waikiki at ADAA's joint conference with the Academy of General Dentistry Academy of General Dentistry (AGD),
n.pr a nonprofit, international organization dedicated to serving the needs and representing the general interests of dental professionals.
. A new slate of national officers and four new regional trustees were installed. Plus our annual slate of awards was presented.

AWARDS

Beginning with awards presentations at the First House of Delegates House of Delegates

The lower house of the state legislature in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.
, the Sullivan-Schein Awards of Excellence were presented to winners nominated from each of their home districts. Nominations are based on the individual's accomplishments which enhance the dental assisting profession in areas of local and state association development, communications, leadership, membership development and community service. From the pool of district recipients, the ADAA Awards Sub-committee chooses one awardee for recognition as the national Award of Excellence recipient.

This year's recipient of both the First District and national award was Patricia J. White, CDA (1) (Compact Disc Audio) The compact disc file extension that is seen on the computer in Explorer or some other file manager. CDA files are actually pointers to the locations of the individual tracks on the CD medium. See CD-DA. , Hampton, NH, a past national president of ADAA. Recognized in general for her continued support and participation in the activities of her state and national professional organization, the New Hampshire New Hampshire, one of the New England states of the NE United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts (S), Vermont, with the Connecticut R. forming the boundary (W), the Canadian province of Quebec (NW), and Maine and a short strip of the Atlantic Ocean (E).  Dental Assistants Association and the ADAA, she was specifically honored for her efforts to open and maintain dialogue between the NHDAA and other associations and regulatory agencies.

Ms. White is only the sixth recipient of both the regional and national honor presented by Sullivan-Schein Dental, one of America's largest dental supply firms. In addition to the contributions for which she was recognized, she currently serves in various capacities for the ADAA

District Winners are awarded a commemorative, crystal globe and a year's free membership. The national winner also receives a check for $250.

ADAA/Colgate Community Volunteer Award recognizes a member or member' organization for involvement in community preventive oral health care projects. The winner was the Omaha Dental Assistants Society. They were recognized for their particpation in the Colgate-Palmolive "Bright Smiles Bright Futures Volunteer Partnership" program bringing free dental services to homeless and low-income children in the Omaha area. In addition to a $600 cash award and commemrative plaque, a member of the group will be selected to receive travel and two days hotel accommodations at the Nashville convention Nashville Convention

(1850) Two-session meeting of proslavery U.S. Southerners. In 1849 Mississippi held a convention at the urging of John C. Calhoun, calling for all slaveholding states to send delegates to Nashville, Tenn.
 in 2003.

Achievement Award: For demonstrating the most outstanding achivements in promoting the objectives of the Association and furthering the profession of dental assisting--awarded to Karen Davidson, CDA, Mukilteo, WA.

New Member Award: Utilzing the same criteria as the Achievement Award, the New Member Award is presented to a member of no more than five years' standing. This year's award is presented to Susan Wilson, CDA, Concord, NH.

Loyal Assistant Award: Presented to the member with the longest consecutive employment with one employer. The 2002 honoree is Dorothea Tate, CDA, Lexington, KY.

John O. Butler/ADAA Pride Award: Recognition is granted in three categories for the Pride Award, including Clinical, Business and Education. The awards are for dental assistants who have demonstrated loyalty to self as well as to the profession through hard work, motivation and enhancement of the career of dental assisting on a state, local or national level. This year's recognition is presented to Cathy J. Roberts, FADAA FADAA Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association , Bloomington, IN, Clinical Recipient; Deborah Von Alman, CDA, RDA, Richfield, MN, Business Recipient; and Sue-Ellen M. Casey, CDA, Center Harbor, NH, Educator.

Journal Award: For the best member written, educational article in an ADAA publication. Presented this year to Connie Myers Connie Myers (born November 14, 1944) is an American Republican Party politician, who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1996 to 2006, where she represented the 23rd legislative district.  Kracher, CDA, MSD (MicroSoft Diagnostics) A utility that accompanied Windows 3.1 and DOS 6 that reported on the internal configuration of the PC. A variety of information on disks, video, drivers, IRQs and port addresses was provided. , for her article "Pouring Rights" which appeared in the March/April 2002 issue of The Dental Assistant.

Membership Development Awards: Taking the award for the state with the largest numeric increase in membership was Iowa with 255 new members and leading with the highest percentage gain was Wyoming with 111%.

Distinguished Corporate Award: Dan Parrilli, National Professional Sales Manager for the John O. Butler Company received this ADAA honor in recognition of his continuing efforts in behalf of the dental assisting profession through his work on the ADAA Foundation which he currently chairs.

SPECIAL AWARDS

A resolution thanking Sgt. Major Stephen E. Spadaro of the U.S. Army for his role in working with the ADAA to bring education and professionalism to U.S. Army dental assistants was read into the record of the First House of Delegates, and the Sgt. Major was presented with a plaque reflecting the honor.

Sullivan-Schein Dealer Representative of the Year: Angela Mancuso, Business Director of Sullivan-Schein Dental joined then President Cynthia K. Bradley in presenting this award to Phil Boatright a dealer representative from Virginia-recognizing his role in recruiting numerous new members to the ADAA. More than any other Sullivan-Schein rep. This is the first year that this award has been made.
