Aloha adventure.

Forty degrees? In Hawaii? Brrr.

Adam Levy didn't mind the cold temperature that morning. Watching the sunrise from atop Mount Haleakala (elevation 10,000 feet) was worth enduring the cool temperature.

Adam also knew that after the four-hour mountain bike ride down to sea level, he would return to the normal eighty-five-degree weather.

Adam, and the other Hawaiian Venture campers, spent two weeks on the big island, Hawaii, and two weeks on Maui. They hiked past 2,000-foot waterfalls, kayaked in the ocean, and went boogie-boarding in the surf.

A hurricane passed to the south of the island during camp. The waves were as high as sixty feet! "I didn't go surfing then," Adam says with a shaky grin. "The six-foot waves were big enough for me."

The campers' month-long stay was capped off with a luau. They prepared their own food for this festive feast. While they ate, they were entertained by Hawaiian drummers and dancers. "No one wanted to leave, but everyone wanted to go home for a little bit and then come back," says Adam.

After staying in paradise for a month, Adam admitted he was homesick and ready to return to his home island--Long Island! "I just missed the New York kind of thing," says Adam. "It's almost too quiet in Hawaii."
