NEHA Northern Estates Homeowners Association (Indianapolis, Indiana) 
 may soon welcome an organization of environmental health professionals in the 50th state as one of its affiliates. The newly formed Hawaii Hawaii, island, United States

 Environmental Health Association (HEHA) has submitted a petition requesting affiliation with NEHA. The effort to organize a Hawaii affiliate was spearheaded by long-time NEHA member James Ikeda. HEHA is holding its first conference in October.

To seek affiliation, an organization must submit a petition signed by no fewer than 15 people who are voting members of both NEHA and the local organization. The petition and the group's charter and bylaws The rules and regulations enacted by an association or a corporation to provide a framework for its operation and management.

Bylaws may specify the qualifications, rights, and liabilities of membership, and the powers, duties, and grounds for the dissolution of an
 are then reviewed by the NEHA board of directors, who must approve the request for affiliation.

Three years ago, NEHA accepted another overseas affiliate, the Far East affiliate. That chapter comprises military personnel and the civilians who work with them in preventive medicine preventive medicine, branch of medicine dealing with the prevention of disease and the maintenance of good health practices. Until recently preventive medicine was largely the domain of the U.S.  and environmental health in Korea, Japan, Okinawa, and Thailand.
