Alnylam Appoints Dr. Vicki L. Sato as Director; Appointment of Industry Leader Brings Rich Experience in Drug Discovery and Development to Board.


CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NYSE: ALNY), a biopharmaceutical company, engages in the development and commercialization of therapeutic products based on RNA interference (RNAi) in the United States. , Inc. (Nasdaq: ALNY), a leading RNAi therapeutics company, announced today the election of Vicki L. Sato, Ph.D. to its Board of Directors.

Dr. Sato was formerly President of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Vertex Pharmaceuticals is a biotechnology company with activities spanning the length of the pharmaceutical product pipeline, from target identification through to clinical trials and marketing.  from 2000 to 2005. Prior to her position as President, she served as the company's Chief Scientific Officer and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Sato is credited with establishing Vertex as a leading innovator in small molecule drug discovery and development, and under her leadership, the company built a robust pipeline of product candidates in the areas of viral disease, autoimmune diseases Autoimmune diseases
