Earlier, Hancox's son Jake had taken his father's gun when he and his brother were visiting their father. But the father told his sons he needed it. Jake responded: "You don't really need a gun in this house." But he did need it. Both brothers are glad they gave the gun back.

The intruder was listed in critical condition.
