Alltel's Axcess Broadband to provide high-speed wireless data service;

EVDO technology delivers speeds comparable to cable or DSL 

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Alltel Wireless (NYSE: AT), America's largest network, today announced that it is expanding its Axcess Broadband service to Lynchburg and surrounding communities, including Charlottesville. This next generation EVDO (evolution data optimized) technology provides customers with unlimited wireless access to the Internet at speeds comparable to wired broadband connections such as cable modem or DSL.

The Lynchburg coverage area stretches from Hollymead to Danville. Axcess Broadband is also now available in Culpeper.

Alltel introduced Axcess Broadband in Richmond and Norfolk in 2005, and earlier this month the company enlarged the Norfolk coverage to include Suffolk and areas south and east of Virginia Beach.

Axcess Broadband makes it easy to surf the Internet, access e-mail and calendars and download large, graphic-rich files while on the go. Using the service, customers can access advanced business, news and entertainment applications from their laptops, smartphones or handsets at average speeds of 400 to 700 Kbps with maximum speeds of up to 2.4 Mbps.

In the past year Alltel has introduced Axcess Broadband service in metropolitan areas such as Charlotte, Tampa, Phoenix and Cleveland; in smaller cities such as Wilmington and Raleigh, N.C., and in towns such as Savannah, Ga., Dothan, Ala., and Durango, Colo.

Alltel plans to launch Axcess Broadband in additional markets across the country in 2006 and 2007, giving it one of the largest EVDO footprints of any U.S. carrier.

Axcess Broadband is available for $59.99 a month for unlimited use with qualifying voice plans. In addition to supporting a wide range of productivity enhancing business applications, it enables Alltel's Axcess TV, with more than 25 channels, and XM radio, with 20 of the best satellite radio music channels. To experience the high-speed network, customers will need an EVDO-capable handset, such as the silver or fire red MOTORAZR V3m, or a laptop PC data card, such as the Kyocera Passport 1xEVDO PC Card.
