Alltel Selects the OZ Mobile IM Solution to Provide Its Customers with Mobile Instant Messaging; New Service Offers Subscribers Mobile Access to AOL's AIM(R) and Yahoo!(R) Messenger Services on Brew(R) Devices.


MONTREAL -- OZ, the leading mobile messaging solution provider, today announced that Alltel has selected the OZ Mobile IM Solution to power its new Axcess Instant Messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. Instant messaging is more interactive than e-mail because messages are sent immediately, whereas e-mail messages can be queued up in a mail server for seconds or  service. Powered by OZ(TM), this Brew based solution provides Alltel wireless customers with graphics-rich instant messaging using AOL's AIM(R) service and Yahoo! (R) Messenger in a mobile format that closely mirrors the PC experience.

"This is an exciting enhancement that gives Alltel's Axcess Instant Messaging service the look and feel of the PC experience," said Wade McGill, senior vice president of wireless product management for Alltel. "Wireless customers now can enjoy the full benefits of instant messaging, including the ability to see whether their friends are online, with the added advantage of mobility across America's largest wireless network."

Alltel wireless customers can sign up by visiting the AIM (http://www.aim.com) or Yahoo! web sites to get an instant messaging ID and password. Instant messaging is available for download on about a dozen Alltel handsets. The application itself is free, but airtime charges will apply during the two- to three-minute download.

Axcess Instant Messaging usage appears on customers' bills as text messages. Customers can get unlimited text, picture and video messaging, plus Axcess Web, for $19.99 per month with an All Axcess Pass.
