Alltel Names John Fletcher as General Counsel of New Wireline Company.LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Alltel (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange : AT) announced today that John P. Fletcher has been named executive vice president and general counsel of the new company that Alltel's wireline business is forming after its merger with VALOR valor a rodenticide no longer marketed because of toxicity in horses causing dehydration, abdominal pain, hindlimb weakness, inappetence, fishy smell in urine. His work with the national law firm has focused on corporate, securities and merger and acquisition matters. In 2005, Fletcher played a key role in Alltel's transactions with Western Wireless Corp., Midwest Wireless Midwest Wireless was a wireless telephone company serving southern Minnesota, northern Iowa and western Wisconsin in the United States. The company served roughly 400,000 customers and used CDMA phone technology. The company's slogan was "We answer to you. and the merger with VALOR. He also has represented other public companies in a wide range of merger and capital market transactions. "I'm very pleased that John has agreed to join the new wireline company," said Jeff Gardner, Alltel's chief financial officer who will become president and chief executive officer of the new company. "He will be a great asset to our leadership team." Fletcher has been at Kutak Rock since 1998. He worked at the Rose Law Firm of Little Rock from 1993-98. He is a graduate of the Southern Methodist University Southern Methodist University, at Dallas, Tex.; United Methodist; coeducational; chartered 1911. The school's facilities include laboratories for electron microscopy and stable isotopes, a museum of paleontology, and a graduate research center. Law School, where he served on the law journal and was elected to the Order of the Coif An unincorporated national scholastic honor society in law. Its purpose is to foster excellence in legal scholarship and to recognize those who have attained high grades in law school or who have distinguished themselves in the teaching of law. . He also is an honors graduate of Duke University. Alltel announced Dec. 9 that it would spin off its wireline business and merge it with VALOR.
