Allot Communications Ships Software Update to NetPure Internet Filter Appliance for Improved Policy Management.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers COMNET 2003 Booth #645 WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2003 New Software Feature Enables Policy Overruling for Blocking or Unblocking of Web Pages Allot Communications, a premier provider of policy-based networking solutions, today announced the availability of new software to its NetPure(TM) product line of Internet filter See Web filtering and firewall. appliances. The new NetPure software update, version 1.2, enables immediate policy overruling by both the system administrator and users. A new "Warn Mode" allows users to instantly unblock Web pages in the event of over-blocking of "innocent" sites. While the new software provides added flexibility for users to request the unblocking of web sites, the system administrator monitors and controls the total Internet usage. When blocked Web pages are enabled for viewing using the new "Warn Mode," the administrator is able to monitor the list and subsequently overrule overrule v. 1) to reject an attorney's objection to a question of a witness or admission of evidence. By overruling the objection, the trial judge allows the question or evidence in court. If the judge agrees with the objection he/she "sustains" the objection and does not allow the question or evidence. a user's request. "We have listened to our customers who requested improved ways to manage over-blocking of Web sites," said Udi Levin, director of product management at Allot Communications. "With the new version, Allot strengthens its Internet filtering product line with unique management capabilities and exceptional ease of installation and use." Internet Usage Study A recently published study by the Kaiser Family Foundation tested six different (traditional) filtering solutions against more than 3,500 Web sites and found among other things that under-blocking of pornography is still a problem. As the study states: "the amount of pornographic content blocked was found to increase only marginally, from 87 percent at the least restrictive configuration to 91 percent at the most restrictive level." Allot's NetPure Internet filter appliance was not one of the products tested. The NetPure Internet filter improves on existing solutions - it blocks a higher percentage of pornography Web sites and exhibits less over-blocking of innocent Web sites, such as health related information pages. The NetPure Internet filter reduces the load on network resources and increases office productivity; it also reduces the legal liability from lawsuits caused by unlawful employee activities on the Internet. While most Employee Internet Management (EIM) tools, or Internet content filters, are based on connecting and subscribing to fixed database lists, the NetPure appliance is built using Allot's innovative Artificial Content Recognition (ACR) engine, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm, which provides high precision filtering with superior Internet coverage. The NetPure software update version 1.2 and a new NetPure 2000 model are available immediately. NetPure pricing is based on the number of users. A special discount is available to qualified educational institutions (K-12 systems, libraries, colleges and universities). About Allot NetPure The NetPure AI algorithm mimics the human mind when "viewing" Web pages. It filters Internet traffic on the fly, and thus minimizes the flow of undetected, English-based as well as non-English-based, adult sites in many European languages. NetPure excels in coverage of non-English Web traffic, something that traditional Internet filters suffer from. NetPure is the first appliance Internet filter; this form-factor simplifies installation by eliminating the need for on-site platform integration. Combined with the Allot NetEnforcer(R) and CacheEnforcer(R), the NetPure offers a complete fail-safe policy-based management solution for transparent Internet content filtering and bandwidth management. NetPure already offers customers a great price-performance advantage, especially since NetPure does not impose ongoing subscription fees. About Internet Filters Usage The Kaiser Family Foundation study outlines the usage of Internet filters, as follows: "under the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA CIPA - Children's Internet Protection Act of 1999 (US) CIPA - California Independent Petroleum Association CIPA - California Information Practices Act CIPA - Camera & Imaging Products Association CIPA - Canadian Information Productivity Awards CIPA - Canadian Insolvency Practitioners Association CIPA - Canadian International Pharmacy Association CIPA - Center for International Programs Abroad (Emory University) CIPA - Chartered Institute of Patent Agents), filters are currently required on all computers in schools receiving federal funds. The CIPA requirement for libraries was overturned by a federal circuit court last spring, and will be reviewed by the Supreme Court this session." About Allot Communications Allot Communications' policy-powered networking initiative offers bandwidth management solutions for enterprises and IP service providers that improve application performance, reduce network costs, and enable the deployment of delay-sensitive applications. In enterprise networks, Allot's solutions allow network managers to enable quality of service (QoS) by linking business policies to specific network actions that improve users' productivity and contain networking costs. In service provider networks, Allot's QoS and service level agreement (SLA) enforcement solutions maximize return on investment (ROI) by managing over-subscription, throttling P2P traffic on upstream and downstream links, and delivering tiered services and classes of service. Allot Communications has regional offices in the USA, France, Japan, Singapore and Israel. Allot is represented worldwide through OEM and distributor channels.
