Alloptic's GEMS gives service providers the ability to manage their PON (Passive Optical Network) An optical point-to-multipoint access network. There are no optical repeaters or other active devices in a PON, hence the name "passive.  deployments effectively and offers them a flexible platform that is ready to integrate into their respective operational environments. GEMS is designed to support the Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance and Security (FCAPS) functionalities, as defined by the International Telecommunications Union See ITU.

These advanced capabilities allow operators to deliver outstanding customer support and responsiveness to network subscribers, and provide the tools needed to manage today's emerging multi-carrier, open access networks.

Features such as the Service inventories, the PON viewer, and metallic line test controls for POTS lines, allow operators to identify and respond to customer calls within seconds. GEMS' service templates, delayed activation features and pre-provisioning capabilities allow accurate bulk service activations to be achieved with a minimum of time and effort. The GEMS platform is built on widely deployed, open standards Specifications for hardware and software that are developed by a standards organization or a consortium involved in supporting a standard. Available to the public for developing compliant products, open standards imply "open systems;" that an existing component in a system can be replaced  and is capable of supporting a wide variety of northbound interfaces. GEMS also has alarm reporting features that allow it to interact with the overall operations systems.
