Cable-TEC Expo, Alloptic, Inc., a global leader in the design and development of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GEPONs), the most widely deployed next generation access network solution, today announced the launch of their newest family of products designed for the delivery of video services over a fiber optic infrastructure. The Edge Video family of products provide unrivaled flexibility to service operators as they migrate from a traditional HFC 1. (networking) HFC - Hybrid Fiber Coax.

distribution network to a next generation all optical distribution network.

"With the introduction of our new Edge Video products, Alloptic is providing carriers a full array of products that will allow them to move from HFC to a pure deep fiber infrastructure," said Shane Eleniak, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Alloptic. "Unlike other solutions, our portfolio provides MSO/CATV operators a cost effective way to offer both fiber-to-the-business and fiber-to-the-home solutions. The Edge Video solution provides a cost effective, flexible starting point, that allows fiber to be taken all the way to a residential customer without impacting an operator's existing OSS Oss (ôs), city (1994 pop. 62,141), North Brabant prov., S Netherlands; chartered 1399. It is a significant industrial center. Manufactures include meat products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, and metalware. , procedures, current investment in Set Top Boxes, and DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) A cable modem standard from the CableLabs research consortium (www.cablelabs.com), which provides equipment certification for interoperability.  CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) A computerized device that enables cable modems to send and receive packets over the Internet. It inserts IP packets from the Internet into MPEG frames and transmits them to the cable modems via an RF signal.  or RF video headend equipment.  based residential solution."

Alloptic's Edge Video family of products consists of five new products designed to work standalone, in conjunction with existing products, or as an enhancement to other PON products. With the micro-node products, Alloptic extends their leadership position in RF video delivery over a fiber optic infrastructure while allowing a carrier to maintain their traditional investment in existing RF systems. The micro-node family of products includes wideband options for optical delivery from terrestrial based systems and support full, headend and protocol agnostic, return path capabilities. As part of the Edge Video family, Alloptic is introducing an array of laser transmitters, EDFAs, and WDM passive optics designed to provide seamless, single vendor solution to assist carriers as they migrate from HFC to a deep fiber infrastructure.

Alloptic is an industry leader in the development and deployment of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) technology. Alloptic's access network solution has been deployed around the world and offers the only GEPON solution with five years of field hardened, operational history. The Alloptic solution leverages a standard ITU PON architecture while delivering a gigabit of bandwidth. With a native ability to support traditional TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path. Each lower-speed signal is time sliced into one high-speed transmission.  voice over an Ethernet-based platform and RF video overlay, Alloptic is able to provide today's worry free telephone and video services while seamlessly supporting new IP based services like IP HDTV (High Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards that offer the highest resolution and sharpest picture. Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates  and VoIP.
