), today announced that the United States Judicial Panel on MultiDistrict Litigation The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation is a special body within the United States federal court system, established by Congress in 1968, that has the power to transfer similar pending lawsuits brought in multiple districts to a single judge in a single jurisdiction.  has issued a Transfer Order centralizing 49 separate federal lawsuits relating to the recovery, processing and distribution of allograft allograft: see transplantation, medical.  tissue. The cases will be coordinated for pretrial proceedings in the District of New Jersey, before United States District Judge William J. Martini William J. "Bill" Martini (b. January 10, 1947 in Passaic, New Jersey) is a current United States district court judge. Before his judicial service, Martini was a Republican Party politician who represented New Jersey's 8th congressional district (map) in the House of . The cases, which include putative class actions by recipients of allograft tissue, involve a Medtronic subsidiary that distributes allograft tissue used in certain back surgery procedures. The cases include defendants Regeneration Technologies Inc., (RTI); Tutogen Medical Inc.; and Spinal Graft Technologies (SGT). SGT, is a subsidiary of Medtronic Sofamor Danek, Inc., and distributes allograft tissue to orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons.
