AlliedSignal-SYSKO Begins Operations in Asia.SEOUL, Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 25, 1999--AlliedSignal Inc. today announced the consolidated Asian fibers company formed last October as a joint venture between AlliedSignal Inc., and three Korea-based companies, Sam Yang Corp., Kohap Ltd., and S.K. Chemical Ltd., has initiated operations as AlliedSignal-SYSKO, Ltd. AlliedSignal has a majority ownership in the new company with Sam Yang Corp. having the majority interest among the three Korean members. "AlliedSignal-SYSKO will be fully operational by the end of this month, producing a broad range of value-added, high tenacity performance fibers for the South East Asian market," said Fred Festa, Vice President of AlliedSignal Performance Fibers. The company also has decided to idle approximately 12,000 MT of capability over the next couple of months and is exploring improvements that can be made to enable the idled equipment to shift from the production of polyester to nylon, such as for automobile, airbags or other higher-value products. The idled equipment was originally dedicated to the production of polyester for lower-value non-tire applications, where demand levels are lower. Concurrently, AlliedSignal announced that it is considering the startup of the next phase of its patented DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive (TM) Tire Fiber expansion in Longlaville, France.
