AlliedSignal completes acquisition of European nylon plastics and fibers production facility.

, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 1995-- AlliedSignal Inc. said today it has completed its previously-announced acquisition of the assets operated by Polymers and Filament filament, in astronomy: see chromosphere.  Rudolstadt (PFR), a German producer of nylon plastics and fibers. Terms were not announced.

AlliedSignal acquires PFR's manufacturing facilities in Rudolstadt, located 150 miles east of Frankfurt/Main. The site, which employs approximately 300 people, manufactures both nylon 6 and nylon 6,6 plastic and fiber, and also polymerizes PET polymer.

A global leader in nylon technology, AlliedSignal is one of the world's largest producers of nylon 6 resin and is at the forefront of the development of innovative plastic resins and design solutions for use in the automotive, packaging, electrical and lawn and power industries. The primary industrial use of caprolactam is as a monomer in the production of nylon. Most of the caprolactam is synthesised from cyclohexanoxime by a Beckmann rearrangement.

AlliedSignal Plastics manufactures nylon resins used in packaging films, automotive parts, electrical wire and cable, electric components and lawn and power products. The company's Fibers business produces a wide range of fibers, including nylon, polyester and Spectra(R) fiber for use in carpet, activewear, tires, seat belts, airbags, armor and recreational products.
