, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 23, 1995-- AlliedSignal Inc. today introduced SpectraVue(TM), a line of display enhancement materials that radically improves the performance of Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs).

The company believes SpectraVue, thin plastic films that enhance LCDs, will allow LCDs to surpass competitive Cathode Ray Tubes See CRT.

(CRTs) in image quality. SpectraVue films provide LCDs with vivid, true colors that do not change with one's viewing angle, and they aid reading in sunlight.

Originally developed by AlliedSignal for demanding aerospace applications such as cockpit displays, SpectraVue technology has been adapted for use in a variety of other applications, including video products, automotive displays, laptop displays and desktop monitors. "SpectraVue weds our expertise in plastics and optics," said Dr. David C. Hill, AlliedSignal Performance Materials President. "This technology will make significant contributions to the consumer electronics, aerospace, automotive and lighting industries."

"The breakthrough viewing capability is accomplished by first efficiently generating a parallel beam of light from a flat light source and then spreading or diffusing the light after it passes through the LCD," said Thomas C. Credelle, SpectraVue Market Development Director.

A new venture created to commercialize novel optical devices, SpectraVue products are produced and marketed by AlliedSignal's MicroOptic Devices unit, part of the corporation's Engineered Materials' Performance Materials business. As part of the company's effort to become a premier supplier to the display industry, it earlier this month opened a $25 million state-of-the-art facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey Elizabeth is a city in Union County, New Jersey, in the United States. The operation has the capacity to produce one million pieces annually in sizes up to 11.3 inches diagonal, with larger sizes to become available next year.
