[NYSE: HON] announced today that they have completed the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ (Department Of Justice) The legal arm of the U.S. government that represents the public interest of the United States. It is headed by the Attorney General. ) agreement that permits the companies to close their merger under U.S. competition law.

The principal terms of the DOJ agreement are identical to those previously announced by the companies on October 4, 1999. The companies still expect to receive approval from the European Commission European Commission, branch of the governing body of the European Union (EU) invested with executive and some legislative powers. Located in Brussels, Belgium, it was founded in 1967 when the three treaty organizations comprising what was then the European Community  and to close the merger before the end of the year.
