Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) is a leading multinational aerospace manufacturer and advanced technology company formed in 1995 by the merger of Lockheed Corporation with Martin Marietta.
has selected AlliedSignal Aerospace's Up-Front Control Display and integrated Control Panel for its U-2S aircraft.

The systems will be installed in 35 U-2S aircraft over the next five years.

The Up-Front Control Display and integrated Control Panel are used to control navigation and communication systems in the aircraft and give pilots greater access to information. Both the Control Display and Control Panel incorporate new active matrix liquid crystal displays from AlliedSignal Aerospace.

Pilots enter data and flight commands using the interactive Control Panel, which features large control buttons so it can be operated easily by pilots wearing high-altitude gloves.

"U-2S pilots need a system that allows them to monitor and control several aircraft functions at any given moment, and our system provides it quickly and reliably," said Charles D. Sheets, director of Marketing and Sales, AlliedSignal Aerospace's Grimes Lighting Division.

Designed for high-altitude, multi-functional data collection, the U-2S is the latest addition to Lockheed Martin's U-2 program, which began in the 1950s. The aircraft will be used by a variety of customers including NASA NASA: see National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
