TORRANCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25--AlliedSignal Aerospace has won a contract from Malaysia Airlines valued at more than $100 million to provide wheels, brakes and avionics equipment for up to 17 Boeing 777 and avionics for up to 13 Boeing 747-400 aircraft.

The contract is one of four that AlliedSignal has recently won and represents another success in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region. In addition to Malaysia, AlliedSignal won contracts from GE Capital Aviation Services, Singapore Airlines This article or section is written like an .

"AlliedSignal is working aggressively to serve this high-growth market with its state-of-the-art equipment and customer-focused service," said Daniel P. Burnham, president of AlliedSignal Aerospace. "Malaysia Airlines is an expanding airline and AlliedSignal can serve several of its needs."

Malaysia Airline's new 777s will be equipped with Bendix main and nose wheels and carbon composite brakes from AlliedSignal Aircraft Landing Systems.

For both the 777s and 747s, AlliedSignal Commercial Avionics Systems will provide its ground proximity warning system Ground proximity warning system (GPWS) is a system designed in 1967 by Don Bateman Chief Engineer, Flight Safety Avionics, Honeywell to alert pilots if their aircraft is in immediate danger of flying into the ground. , traffic alert and collision avoidance system (1) See adaptive cruise control.

Ground proximity warning systems sound an alert if the aircraft is in danger of flying into terrain. TCAS, combined with a Mode S transponder, warns the flight crew to climb or descend to avoid another aircraft.

Cockpit voice recorders preserve cockpit communications and flight data recorders collect aircraft performance data; both systems help investigators determine the causes of accidents. AlliedSignal's new solid state recorders can store up to two hours of data and can record more performance parameters than tape machines.

Malaysia Airlines has placed 15 firm orders for the 777s and 10 firm orders for the 747s with options to buy 2 more 777s and 3 more 747s. In addition to the avionics and wheels and brakes that Malaysia Airlines ordered for its 777s, AlliedSignal has 11 other systems on board the aircraft as standard equipment, including the air supply and cabin pressure control systems, auxiliary power unit An auxiliary power unit (APU) is a device on a vehicle whose purpose is to provide energy for functions other than propulsion.
