AlliedSignal's Spectra Shield Material Selected For $83-Million Military Helmet Contract.


PETERSBURG, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 1999--

AlliedSignal Inc. said today that its Spectra Shield Spectra Shield® is a composite material (specifically, an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber) used in bulletproof vests and vehicle armour. It is manufactured by Honeywell. (R) composite has been selected as the ballistic material for a new lightweight helmet Lightweight Helmet is the U.S. Marine Corps replacement for the PASGT combat helmet. As it is nearly identical to untrained eyes in shape to the PASGT, it is still called the "Fritz Helmet" or "K-Pot".  system for the Marine Corps.
