Allied Telesyn promotes fiber-optic network technology; free network design software, fiber-optic product summary guide, and instant reseller rebates ease selling fiber-optic LANS.

BOTHELL, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 1997--Allied Telesyn today announced a new program to promote fiber-optic network technology supported by special, limited-time reseller product rebates.

Allied Telesyn is proactively assisting resellers in understanding fiber-optic LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  technology and providing VARs, system integrators, and end-users with design software for properly configuring fiber-optic networks. Allied Telesyn currently offers one of the broadest lines of fiber-optic products in the industry.

In support of this initiative, instant reseller rebates on more than 25 different fiber-optic products are currently available.

Resellers who call Allied Telesyn's toll-free number may request a free copy of Lucent Technologies FiberGraphix Network Design Software for Windows, version 2.0a. This software assists VARs and system integrators in designing premises, campus, and outside plant fiber-optic networks through an easy-to-use GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface.  interface.

specifications. The software generates a workable, standards-based design; the software has a $50 suggested retail price.

In addition to the free software, qualified resellers will also receive Allied Telesyn's Fiber-Optic Product Summary Guide, which provides an overview of current fiber-optic technology as well as details on the company's complete family of fiber-optic products.

On purchases made through March 31, 1997, resellers qualify for instant rebates from all major distributors and directly from Allied Telesyn. The company is offering these rebates on fiber-optic Ethernet transceivers, repeaters, network adapters, and TurboStack hubs. Included in this limited-time offer are the newly announced fast Ethernet An earlier name for 100Mbps Ethernet. See 100Base-T.

fiber-optic transceivers and fast Ethernet fiber-optic network adapters. Instant rebates range in value from $5 to $1,000 depending on the product purchased.

"Allied Telesyn is demonstrating that fiber-optic networks are neither difficult to design nor necessarily more expensive to implement than copper-based LANs," said Fernando Corona, Vice President of Product Marketing. "The design tools and product rebates provided to resellers during this campaign are designed to educate and assist them in migrating to the cable medium of choice for the next century. Allied Telesyn leads this direction with the most robust set of fiber-optic LAN products available today."
