Low-Profile Adapters Deliver Affordable Expansion for

Small Form Factor PCs Employing 2.5" PCI Slots

Allied Telesyn International (www.alliedtelesyn.com), a worldwide leader in simplifying IP networking for businesses of all sizes, today announced that it has begun shipping low-profile versions of its best-selling copper and copper/fiber combo adapters.

The new low-profile standard employs 2.5" expansion slots for PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

It provides a direct connection between the card and memory, and only one AGP slot is on the motherboard.  devices, rather than the traditional 4.2" slots and is being adopted by all the major PC manufacturers in order to offer smaller desktop systems with expansion capabilities equivalent to or better than previous-generation systems.

A market-leader in fiber optic-based networking technologies, Allied Telesyn is offering low-profile versions of its best-selling AT-2450FTX (Fault Tolerant UNIX) Stratus Computer's version of Unix System V for its XA/R fault tolerant computer systems. See also FTTx.

fiber adapters that offer a fiber and 10/100TX copper port on each board. The AT-2450FTX includes a 10Base-FL fiber port and a 10/100TX copper port. The AT-2700FTX includes a 100Base-FX fiber port and a 10/100TX copper port. Both cards are ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) A power management specification developed by Intel, Toshiba and Microsoft that makes hardware status information available to the operating system.  and Wake-on-LAN compliant and support DMI (Desktop Management Interface) The first desktop management standard from the DMTF. Support for the same driver suite provides easy network migration over time. The AT-2500TX 10/100TX copper adapter is also being made available in a low-profile version and offers the same management capabilities as the fiber models. All cards include a BootROM socket to provide PXE (Preboot EXecution Environment) An Intel Wired for Management (WfM) capability that enables a PC to boot from the server. It enables remote booting (boot the OS), remote emergency booting (boot a diagnostic program) and remote new system startup (boot the installation  support for centrally maintained networks.

"We expect demand for low-profile fiber adapters to increase steadily, particularly from government and military customers who see the advantage of deploying smaller form factor PCs throughout their secure operations," said Jim Berthot, Head of the Americas and Senior Vice President of Allied Telesyn. "Commercial businesses of all sizes will adopt low-profile fiber adapters too, although adoption rates won't be as rapid."

In common with all Allied Telesyn network adapters, these new low-profile products represent a great value for optimizing network performance and are shipped with lifetime warranties and free technical support.
