Allied Telesyn Powers City of Loma Linda to Win CENIC Innovation in Networking Award; Municipality Utilizes IP Triple Play to Become a Connected Community.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Allied Telesyn, a global provider of secure Ethernet/IP access solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple Play networks over copper and fiber infrastructure, announced today that the City of Loma Linda has won the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) Innovation in Networking Award in Gigabit Applications for its Allied Telesyn IP Triple Play network. The award is the latest of several awards honoring the innovation and creativity of the Loma Linda Connected Community Project.

CENIC highlights network applications by identifying exemplary innovations that have the potential to improve the way instruction and research is conducted, even when the impact of the innovation may not be felt immediately. Past winners of CENIC awards include major California universities, counties, cities and school districts. The 2006 Innovation in Networking Award in Gigabit Applications will be presented at CENIC's 10th annual conference on March 14 in Oakland, Calif.

The Loma Linda Connected Community Project links residents, businesses and government to a citywide fiber-optic network unlike any in the United States. Live since 2004, both City utilities and outside service providers can utilize the network to provide amenities such as state of the art broadband data services, high-speed Internet access, VoIP, video on demand, alarm system monitoring and safety systems to area residents and businesses. Using Allied Telesyn's iMAP Multiservice Access Platform, iMG intelligent Multiservice Gateways, Layer 3 switches and routers, the majority of the infrastructure was deployed in less than one year.

With public and private services relying heavily on the widespread network, the City also designed it for reliability. To keep the network in operation during power outages (such as California's recent blackouts), battery and subsidiary power infrastructure was installed at multiple critical points throughout the network.
