Allied Telesyn LightExplorer Quadruples Fiber Capacity For East Texas ILEC; Livingston/Lake Livingston Choose Allied Telesyn CWDM to Carry IP Video, Voice and Data Services to Rural Customers.

BOTHELL, Wash. -- Allied Telesyn, a global provider of secure Ethernet/IP access solutions, today announced that Texas ILEC Livingston Telephone is using the Allied Telesyn LightExplorer(TM) Optical Transport Platform to expand Triple Play video services to neighboring carrier Lake Livingston Telephone.

This enhanced fiber connection lets Livingston Telephone (LivTel) deploy premium IP video services -- including "cable tv" channels and video-on-demand service -- to the smaller ILEC. Currently, the two companies are connected by just one existing fiber pair, over which Lake Livingston Telephone has been receiving telephone and high-speed internet services. The LightExplorer effectively quadruples available bandwidth over that pair, enabling Lake Livingston to take advantage of LivTel's video head-end and revenue-generating next-generation video services. Alternatives, such as trenching new fiber or building a new head-end would have cost the ILEC as much as $700K.

The network, says Walzel, has been extremely cost-effective in every aspect. "Sure, you can increase bandwidth by other means," he says. "But this is far more economical than dedicating a fiber for each location or multiple fibers for each service. It is clear from the beginning, and compared with laying new fiber or a new head end it is exponentially less costly." The ILEC expects to see even more return on its investment, as services increase and additional wholesale customers are brought into the network.
