Allied Telesyn Brings Low Cost 10/100 Switching Closer to the Desktop.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 1997--

New 10/100 Mbps Micro-Switch includes a fiber option enabling

high-bandwidth applications at the workgroup level

Allied Telesyn, a leading supplier of network building blocks, today announced the AT-MS400 and AT-MS425, two unmanaged Ethernet switches A device that connects clients and servers to each other in an Ethernet network. See switched Ethernet.  capable of inexpensively increasing workgroup bandwidth and performance. In addition to three 10/100 ports, the AT-MS425 includes one 100Base-FX fiber port with a choice of ST or SC connectors A fiber-optic cable connector that uses a push-pull latching mechanism similar to common audio and video cables. For bi-directional transmission, two fiber cables and two SC connectors (Dual SC) are generally used. SC is specified by the TIA as FOCIS-3. . These unmanaged switches feature functionality previously only available in high-end, high-priced switches, and come with Allied Telesyn's free technical support and lifetime warranty.

The AT-MS400 and AT-MS425 switches feature full wire speed forwarding and filtering at 100 Mbps, with the ability to auto-sense and auto-negotiate for trouble free, plug and play installations. The switches support over 8,000 MAC addresses, each connection is segmented, and every switch port automatically learns the address of all end stations attached to it. The self-configuration features of the MS400 switches allow network managers to easily upgrade from unmanaged hubs A network hub that does not support management queries or commands. Typically an Ethernet hub, it serves as a central connecting point only. Contrast with managed hub.  to experience the benefits of a switched environment.

Additionally, the AT-MS400 and AT-MS425 feature port and switch status LEDs, the option of desktop or rack-mounting, an MDI/MDI-X crossover switch Crossover switches are complex array matrices to switch any one input path to any one (or more) output path(s). There are blocking and non-blocking types of cross-over switches. They are used in electronics and fiber optic circuits, as well as some optical computers.  for cascading capability, and a 280K packet buffer size per port.
