Allied Telesyn Announces Fast Ethernet Unmanaged Hubs; New hubs feature high reliability, easy installation, and affordable ownership.SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 1997--Allied Telesyn today announced a new twelve-port unmanaged Fast Ethernet An earlier name for 100Mbps Ethernet. See 100Base-T. (networking) Fast Ethernet - A version of Ethernet developed in the 1990s(?) which can carry 100 Mbps compared with standard Ethernet's 10 Mbps. It requires upgraded network cards and hubs. hub, the AT-MR912TX. Also announced is the new AT-MR902 Fiber-Optic Uplink Module, which can be purchased separately for simple field installation in the AT-MR912TX by the user. The AT-MR912TX hub contains twelve shielded RJ45 ports that are fully compliant with 100BaseTX IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields. 802.3u Fast Ethernet standards. A workgroup can be expanded through cascading and/or stacking multiple units of hubs. One port on the AT-MR912TX hub allows for cascading, complete with an MDI/MDI-X switch. Two units can be cascaded as per the Fast Ethernet "two-repeater" rule. In this mode the hubs act as Class II repeaters. Each hub can also be stacked, to a maximum of six hubs, using the optionally available AT-MR901 Stacking Module. All stacked hubs act as a single hub; consequently, there can be up to 12 hubs connected as a workgroup (142 total ports) when they are both stacked and cascaded. When stacked, the hubs behave as Class I repeaters. Additionally, by installing the AT-MR902 Fiber-Optic Uplink Module, the hub or stack can be seamlessly integrated into a corporate network backbone. The AT-MR912TX hub comes with a full complement of LEDs to monitor system and network performance, including a network utilization display, and is either rack-mountable or suitable for standalone operation. The power supply is internal and auto-ranging to accommodate all common voltage inputs. Both the AT-MR912TX hub and the AT-MR902 Fiber-Optic Uplink Module come with lifetime warranties and free technical support. The U.S. list price for the AT-MR912TX is $1,615, and the list price for the AT-MR902 is $510.
