Tiscali selected Allied Telesis' intelligent Multiservice Gateways (iMGs) to deliver wireless IP service to its customers.

Tiscali is one of Europe's leading ISPs, with more than 7 million customers. The carrier selected Allied Telesis' iMG600 family based on its flexible implementation options, its support for LANs and WLANs, and its remote management capability which will dramatically reduce the time-to-market that Tiscali has initially planned for the rollout of its Surf & Talk service.

"When we were conducting tests during the selection process, Allied Telesis' iMGs stood out from the crowd due to their flexibility and versatility, enabling us to meet the needs of all our customers, from simple POTS to the full range of state-of-the-art triple play services," said Jens Blomeyer, head of Product Marketing, Resale Products, at Tiscali Germany.

Allied Telesis iMGs provide progressive operators with the opportunity to deliver advanced IP Triple and Quad Play solutions over broadband or fiber technology. Designed for network service providers and the deployment of IP services, the iMG600 family offers leading video and IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) Also called "TV over IP," IPTV delivers scheduled TV programs and video-on-demand (VOD) via the IP protocol and digital streaming techniques used to watch video on the Internet.  QoS, security, and centralized network management. It also offers VoIP interoperability with major softswitch vendors and advanced IGMP (Internet Group Multicast Protocol) The protocol that governs the management of multicast groups in a TCP/IP network. To sign up for a multicast group, a Host Membership Report is sent by a user's machine to its nearest routers, which forward that data to  support with MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Wired data services are supported over 4 LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  ports.

The most recent addition to the iMG600 family, the AT-iMG634W, enables new revenue generating IP services to be delivered wirelessly within the home environment. The deployment of a secure, home wireless solution ensures there is no need for new cabling and disruption within the home. These services can be delivered to the consumer premise over ADSL2+ through the operator's existing copper infrastructure.

"Allied Telesis is excited about the emergence of wireless technology as a method for delivering high quality communications and entertainment services to the end user," said Philip Yim, executive vice president of global marketing & product development for Allied Telesis. "By integrating wireless into the iMG600 family we continue to lead in the IP Triple Play gateways business."
