Allied Pilots Association begins round two of informational picketing, cites lack of progress in contract talks with AMR.ARLINGTON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 18, 1996--The Allied Pilots Association (APA (All Points Addressable) Refers to an array (bitmapped screen, matrix, etc.) in which all bits or cells can be individually manipulated. APA - Application Portability Architecture ) begins a second round of an informational picketing campaign today at selected airports around the country to alert travelers of the lack of progress in its contract negotiations with AMR (1) (Adaptive Multi-Rate) A variable rate speech codec selected by the 3GPP for the 3G evolution of the GSM cellphone system (WCDMA). Corporation, parent company of American Airlines American Airlines Major U.S. airline. American was created through a merger of several smaller U.S. airlines and incorporated in 1934. It continued to buy the routes of other airlines, becoming an international carrier in the 1970s; its routes include South America, the . After two years of negotiating, unresolved issues include the outsourcing of American Airlines flying, pilot pension plan changes, pilot work rules and rates of pay. "APA's negotiators have presented three comprehensive proposals containing cost savings to management, but have met with little progress on the major issues, which the pilots have told management are central to reaching a new agreement," said APA President Captain James G. Sovich. APA requested the assistance of a federal mediator in January, 1996, after concluding that AMR management was stalling the talks. AMR reported all-time record profits in its most recent quarterly results, and projects a similarly strong performance for the next few years. Round one of informational picketing began on May 15, 1996, when uniformed pilots walked picket lines throughout the American Airlines system calling public attention to their concerns over job security issues. Their primary objection is AMR's increasing outsourcing of routes formerly flown by American Airlines to other carriers. American's pilots believe that this practice damages the company's hard-earned reputation for quality and safety. Picketing pilots are urging American's passengers to confirm that they are indeed booked on the "genuine article" -- an American Airlines flight crewed by AA pilots -- not an "alter ego A doctrine used by the courts to ignore the corporate status of a group of stockholders, officers, and directors of a corporation in reference to their limited liability so that they may be held personally liable for their actions when they have acted fraudulently or unjustly or when " carrier. "There is marked difference between American Airlines, the premier carrier in the world, and the product of an upstart, no-frills outfit," said Sovich. "When a passenger buys a ticket from American Airlines, we think they deserve to get what they paid for -- the genuine article." The pilots emphasize that they are reluctant to take any action that would hurt their company or disrupt passenger travel plans, but are adamant in their resolve to secure a fair working agreement that enables the pilots to share in the company's success. If left with no alternative, the pilots have stated that they are prepared to strike the carrier. This would be the second strike in three years at American Airlines. The airline's flight attendants struck the company in November, 1993. The picketing schedule: -- Dallas/Ft.
