Allied Home Mortgage Capital Corporation (AHMCC) branch manager Rita Thomson-Zurita has been named 2003 Arizona Businesswoman of the Year by the National Republican Congressional Committee's (NRCC) Business Advisory Council and will participate in the Congressional Tax Summit with government leaders in Washington, D.C. March 17-18.

Rita has been engaged in the mortgage lending industry for over 20 years with the last 10 being in Tucson, Ariz. She has received a number of professional honors and received a President's Club Circle of Stars Award from AHMCC President Jim Hodge last year. She started her career as a commercial mortgage broker in Flint, Mich., where she attended the University of Michigan. Later, Rita came to Tucson with her family, her husband Jose Zurita, and her two sons Joe and Christopher. She began her Tucson career with Valley National, now Bank One, and in 1998 opened her own Allied branch operation. Her office at 911 S. Craycroft serves a diverse clientele.

Thomson-Zurita was the only female among 25 nominees for the award that recognizes the top U.S. business leaders who have successfully integrated business and financial success with the support of Republican issues like tax cuts and decreased government regulation.

The Congressional Tax Summit will be discussing the President's Economic Recovery Plan and is designed to provide economic feedback to congressional members about the country's fiscal health.

Thomson-Zurita is the second Allied branch manager to receive this recognition. Gerald M. Fritts has been named 2003 Montana Businessman of the Year and will also participate in the Congressional Tax Summit.
