Alliance unveils full suite of MRP-II software; engineered and priced for small- to mid-sized manufacturers.

SANTA BARBARA Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 1996--Alliance Manufacturing Software The following list of software modules are the manufacturing components of Baan's ERP (BaanERP) system, acquired by SSA Global in 2003 and subsequently by Infor at the end of 2006. It is listed here because it provides a comprehensive overview of the required software. See MES.  Tuesday unveiled Alliance/MFG for Windows, complete manufacturing resource planning Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II) is defined by APICS as a method for the effective planning of all resources of a manufacturing company. Ideally, it addresses operational planning in units, financial planning in dollars, and has a simulation capability to answer  (MRP-II) software for small- to mid-sized manufacturers.

Alliance/MFG provides the full suite of MRP-II functions, including bill of materials The list of components that make up a system. For example, a bill of materials for a house would include the cement block, lumber, shingles, doors, windows, plumbing, electric, heating and so on. , sales orders, purchase orders, forecasting, work orders, material requirements planning (application) Material Requirements Planning - (MRP) A system for effectively managing material requirements in a manufacturing process.

There are numerous capacity planning tools on the market used to monitor and analyze the performance of the current hardware and software.  and shop floor control.

Written in object-oriented code for all Windows platforms, Alliance/MFG was designed specifically for the challenging environments of small- to mid-sized manufacturers.

Alliance/MFG runs on Windows 3.x Windows 3.x can refer to either an individual or all of the following versions of Microsoft Windows:
  • Windows 3.0
  • Windows 3.1x
These should not be confused with the first three releases of Windows NT, which were also given "3.x" version numbers, i.e.
, Windows 95 and Windows NT. The peer-to-peer network version includes the first six seats and sells for $8,795.

The product incorporates advanced features such as bar-coding, multiple locations, multiple languages, multiple currencies and lot and serial number tracking, but is considerably more affordable than similar products from other publishers costing $50,000 and up.

Alliance/MFG Lite for Windows, a scaled down, single-user version, sells for only $2,495.

But low cost is not the product's only appeal to manufacturers under $20 million in sales.

``Big companies work differently,'' said William Urschel, president of Alliance. ``They have specific people assigned to specific tasks, and they can absorb a certain amount of inefficiency. In smaller companies one person may be doing several tasks, and there is much less room for waste and inefficiency.''

Alliance/MFG makes it easy for that multifunctional person to monitor and manage any part of the manufacturing process using the multiple windows on different parts of the manufacturing process, drag and drop A graphical user interface (GUI) capability that lets you perform operations by moving the icon of an object with the mouse into another window or onto another icon. For example, files can be copied or moved by dragging them from one folder to another.  between those windows and a graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to
which greatly simplifies complex product structures.

Alliance/MFG also has automated links to more than 15 of the leading PC-based accounting programs. ``This gives the smaller manufacturer complete flexibility,'' said Urschel. ``It lets him stay with the accounting program he is comfortable with or choose a more powerful one as he grows, while running his manufacturing on Alliance/MFG.''

Alliance also offers links to AutoCAD and other CAD programs.

Alliance/MFG is now running at 250 beta test sites nationwide. Overall, Alliance's sales have been up an average of 40 percent per month since October 1995. According to Urschel, this explosive growth is based entirely on anticipation of the new Windows product.

Alliance/MFG includes 90 days of unlimited telephone support. After 90 days, annual maintenance contracts are available. Training and custom programming are also available for $95 per hour. The company maintains a private BBS (1) (Bulletin Board System) A computer system used as an information source and forum for a particular interest group. They were widely used in the U.S. , as well as an Internet home page (http://www.alliancemfg.com).

The final release of Alliance/MFG is expected to be June 30, 1996. The Lite version will be released 30 days later. A client/ server version will be released in the fourth quarter.
