), a leader in powering applications with an extensive portfolio of mixed signal integrated circuits, high speed chip-to-chip connectivity products, networking solutions and synchronous memory products, today announced the availability of its el-EMI-nator(TM) Series of Clock Synthesis solutions, which allows designers to select from a wide series of configurations, while reducing electromagnetic interference See EMI.  (EMI) at the clock source.

Alliance's el-EMI-nator Series currently consists of 12 devices with frequency ranges from 6 - 50MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. , and a variety of frequency deviations and modulation rates. Designed specifically for very low power applications where battery life and physical space requirements are indeed an issue, these devices typically consume as little as 8 microamps in standby mode, and typically less than 4mA operating. In addition to the very low power consumption, the family is available in the absolute smallest footprint in the industry today using 6-lead TSOT TSOT The Sands of Time (gaming)

TSOT Total System Operational Test
TSOT Thin Small Outline Transistor
23 packages with a maximum of 1.0mm height, fitting the very small footprint requirements for applications like MP3 players, PDAs, and other hand held devices and products.

"System designers for embedded systems, PC peripherals and digital consumer applications are confronted with extremely challenging design parameters in dealing with power consumption, physical space limitations, and EMI reduction issues to meet the required regulatory standards (like FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S. , CSA (1) (Canadian Standards Association, Toronto, Ontario, www.csa.ca) A standards-defining organization founded in 1919. It is involved in many industries, including electronics, communications and information technology. , CSIPR, etc...). Alliance is able to leverage its mixed signal expertise, broad IP and leading design methodologies to deliver a technologically superior solution and an industry first as we address these design challenges directly," said Mark Sherwood, director of marketing for Alliance's Analog and Mixed Signal Business Unit. "With our capabilities and outstanding design team, Alliance is strongly positioned to deliver analog and mixed signal solutions more quickly and cost effectively without compromise to our customers."

Alliance's el-EMI-nator Series is a family of versatile spread spectrum frequency modulators designed specifically for a wide range of clock frequencies (6-50MHz). The el-EMI-nator Series allows system designers extreme flexibility in both system timing & planning, and enables the verification of system functionality and performance under various spread spectrum clocking schemes with options for modulation parameters like depth, rate and profile.

The el-EMI-nator Series modulates the output of PLL PLL - phase-locked loop  in order to spread the bandwidth of a synthesized clock, thereby decreasing the peak amplitudes of its harmonics. The result is significantly lower system EMI compared to the typical narrow band signal produced by oscillator oscillator

Mechanical or electronic device that produces a back-and-forth periodic motion. A pendulum is a simple mechanical oscillator that swings with a constant amplitude, requiring the addition of energy at each swing only to compensate for the energy lost because of air
and most clock generators. Additionally, the el-EMI-nator Series allows significant system cost savings by reducing the number of circuit board layers and metal shielding that are traditionally required to pass federal EMI regulations.

The el-EMI-nator Series includes a single on-chip PLL with either a single modulated output, or one modulated and one un-modulated REF outputs, supply voltage ranges of either 2.5 V or 3.3 V with selectable spread range and modulation rates.

The full el-EMI-nator Series (http://www.alsc.com/products/mx.htm#emi) is currently in production with evaluation boards available today.

Also available from Alliance is the EMI-lator(TM) simulation software. This software enables system designers to familiarize themselves with this technology and also view the spectral energy composition of a clock source with and without spread spectrum modulation. With this simulation solution, designers can better gauge how much EMI reduction will be achieved with a given configuration and an Alliance Semiconductor IC solution.
