Zehner commented, "We have provided services to Charleston Area Medical Center since 1990 and have developed a strong working relationship. We are pleased to have been selected to upgrade the MRI system and continue to be the provider of shared-user MRI services to this major health care facility."

Zehner added, "The new Charleston MRI scanner will be the sixth unit we have acquired this year, three of these being new mobile, high-field MRI units. We plan to continue our strategy of upgrading our MRI fleet by adding up to three more high-field scanners this year, and believe that will help us in our drive to sign more long-term contracts and to increase our share of market.

"At the same time, since we emphasize strong asset management, we are also getting meaningful trade-in values as we replace older MRI units."

Zehner said that in the last year the company has enhanced its mobile and fixed-unit fleet by acquiring 21 MRI scanners to replace older units; of the newly acquired scanners, 10 are high-field (1.0 Tesla or greater) units and 11 are mid-field (0.5 Tesla) units.

Alliance Imaging is a leading provider of comprehensive imaging services to hospitals and other health-care providers. Services are provided on either a mobile, shared-user basis or on a full-time single-user basis. The company currently operates 72 MRI units and 9 CT units nationwide.
