Alley Cat News. (News in Brief).
Alley Cat Information Sciences (New York) has suspended publication of Alley Cat News, the five-year-old title that covered the high-tech and new media industries in New York City. Launched as a newsletter, the publication was "another victim of a difficult climate for ad dollars made worse in the aftermath of Sept. 11," the company said. Last July, frequency was cut from monthly to bi-monthly. The demise of the title follows last October's close of Silicon Alley An area in New York that has become known for its companies devoted to multimedia and the Internet. It is located in Manhattan's "Soho" district, which does not stand for Small Office Home Office, rather it is SOuth of HOuston Street. See Silicon Valley, Silicon Forest, Silicon Prairie, Silicon Glen, Bit Valley and Siliwood. Reporter, a magazine also launched in 1997. At the time of closing, SAR publisher/owner Jason Calacanis said he would relaunch the title as Venture Reporter by the end of the year, but production has yet to begin.
