Allergan completes acquisition of Optical Micro Systems.

, Allergan Medical Optics Inc., has completed its acquisition of Optical Micro Systems (OMS OMS - Opportunity Management System ).

OMS, based in North Andover, Mass., develops and manufactures phacoemulsification phacoemulsification /phaco·emul·si·fi·ca·tion/ (-e-mul?si-fi-ka´shun) a method of cataract extraction in which the lens is fragmented by ultrasonic vibrations and simultaneously irrigated and aspirated.  equipment, which is used during cataract surgery. The company achieved $8.6 million in worldwide sales in 1994.

"Allergan and OMS customers will benefit from this transaction because of the additional product and service choices it offers them," said William C. Together, we will develop a steady flow of advanced phaco equipment and new technologies for our ophthalmic surgical customers."

The strategic acquisition of Ioptex Research last December and the addition of the OMS line of phaco equipment strengthen Allergan's global marketing position in the ophthalmic surgical market.
