Allergan Elects Pharmaceutical Industry Veteran Anthony Wild to Board of Directors; Henry Wendt Retires.

Allergan, Inc. (NYSE: AGN) today announced that Anthony H. Wild, Ph.D., was elected to the board of directors to replace Henry Wendt who recently retired after serving as a board member for 11 years.

Dr. Wild, 52, is a founding partner and chief executive officer of MedPointe Capital Partners, LLC, a New Jersey-based specialty pharmaceutical private equity firm. Prior to starting this venture in June 2000, he was president of Warner-Lambert's $8-billion global pharmaceutical business. Dr. Wild was responsible for the pharmaceutical sector's commercial, manufacturing and research operations as well as the 20,000 employees worldwide. He joined Warner-Lambert in 1995 as president of Parke-Davis, with responsibility for the United States, Canadian and Mexican pharmaceutical businesses.

Prior to his time at Warner-Lambert, Dr. Wild spent 22 years at Schering-Plough where he worked extensively in international sales, marketing and operating positions with assignments in Switzerland, Sweden, South Africa, the Netherlands, the United States and Japan. He started his career as an industrial chemist with Sandoz AG after graduating with honors from the University of York in the U.K. with a bachelor's in chemistry and obtaining a doctorate in physical chemistry from the University of Cambridge.

Dr. Wild is currently a member of the board of directors of Bioglan Pharma plc, a United Kingdom-based specialty pharmaceuticals company and Variagenics, Inc., a pharmacogenomics company based in Cambridge, Mass. In addition, he serves on the board of advisors for Columbia University's School of Public Health.

Mr. Wendt had served on the Allergan board of directors since the 1989 spin-off from SmithKline Beckman Corporation, before retiring last May. Currently, he serves as the chairman of Global Health Partners, a unit of DLJ Merchant Banking, specializing in private equity investment in health care. Previously, Mr. Wendt was chairman of the board of SmithKline Beecham PLC.
