at the helm of the Stimson Lane wine group, Shoup "retired" to pursue his personal dream of forming a joint venture in Washington with highly acclaimed winemakers from different regions of the world. From this vision, he has established a coterie of individually owned and managed wineries that reflect the status and acclaim of each vintner. He named the venture "Long Shadows Vintners," in tribute to this select group who shape the industry with their benchmark wines and wineries.

In addition to Shoup, MKF Research also announced another new panelist to the program. Rob Sinskey of Robert Sinskey Vineyards will participate in the Breakout Session on May 4th, entitled "Green Winery Architecture." "Sustainable winegrowing is enabling wineries to preserve their environments while improving efficiency by minimizing their resource footprints," stated Barbara Insel, Managing Director for MKF Research. "This panel will explore how wineries have adapted to 'green architecture,' the impact on winemaking and the integration of architecture, winegrowing and lifestyle."

"Many wineries have already utilized principles of sustainable design in leveraging site, materials and other elements," said Cynthia Lohr of J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines who will moderate the panel. Other panelists include:

"What's most fascinating about the parallels between the wine industry and sustainable architecture are that they are both aspirational, lifestyle pursuits; both are born of natural, existing materials; and both capitalize on a long-term vision and model for success," said Lohr. "Whether retrofitting existing facilities or designing green from the ground up, the wine industry is looking to communicate inspiration and best practices to make sustainability a more influential part of the production/lifestyle equation."
