Allen Medical Systems Announces the Launch of Its Surgeon Spotlight Series.

ACTON, Mass. -- Allen Medical Systems, a subsidiary of Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc., (NYSE: HRC), announced the launch of its Surgeon Spotlight Series showcasing interviews with top orthopaedic surgeons each month. The Surgeon Spotlight Series is the latest in a long line of patient safety and educational initiatives from Allen Medical, the company that revolutionized the stirrup industry by developing the safer boot-type stirrup (the Yellofin stirrup), creating a new standard of care.

Allen's focus on improving patient safety and surgical outcomes has fostered its creation of various educational initiatives targeting OR Nurses over the years. With Allen's latest patient positioning devices designed for use by the surgeons, in addition to nursing staff, Allen is expanding its clinical educational focus. "Our hope is to help to increase the level of patient safety and standard of care in the OR, by sharing the experiences of surgeons who are thought leaders in the industry and who are passionate about the importance of effective patient positioning," said Erin Herbst, Allen Marketing. The series includes an interview with a top surgeon each month, and profiles their background and clinical knowledge related to patient positioning. The interviews are hosted on the Allen Medical website, and each will highlight the surgeon's experiences using an Allen device for patient positioning in their surgical specialty of orthopaedics, spine, or sports medicine.

Last year, Allen launched the Skin Integrity campaign targeting OR staff, to share information about the changes in new Medicare legislation, and to increase awareness of pressure ulcers originating in the OR and its expense. As part of the campaign, Allen worked with a team of Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses (WOCN's) to help create effective learning tools and educational materials for use by the OR staff. Another aspect of the campaign was launching the educational website www.SkinIntegrity.com, to provide clinical information about pressure ulcer prevention. The website included research and statistics on new best practices and guidelines being developed in the industry.

The Surgeon Spotlight Series launches with Dr. Darren J. Friedman, Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, New York University School of Medicine, as September's featured surgeon; Dr. Carlos Guanche, Partner, Southern California Orthopaedic Institute in Van Nuys California, is the featured surgeon for October.
